Card of Thanks from Gardner-Irvin families

Angie Irvin writes:
Words cannot begin to express our appreciation shown during the illness and death of our beloved Sarah. Adair County showed its true colors. From the "pink-out" day, celebration of her 30th birthday, fund raisers, money, cards, prayers, calls, emails, visits, food, Caring Bridge posts, kind words- the outpouring of love and support was amazing. We are forever blessed with the memories of her "Celebration of Life" made possible by Louis & Brenda McQueary, Richard & Mary Beth Phelps, Rev. Troy Long, Benson Sexton, Easton Bryant, and Trinity and Bearwallow United Methodist Churches. God bless each of you is our prayer. The Family<

Carol Perkins: Life Threatening Experience

Carol Perkins, Edmonton, KY, author, always sees life in a humorous way, even when events could have put her in the hospital.
The next earlier Carol Sullivan Perkins column, The Pumpkin Patch

By Carol Perkins

I have had a few life threatening experiences. Not those that have landed me in a hospital, but the experiences that had the potential to do so.

The first one was when I was still living at home. After supper, I rose quickly from the kitchen table and knocked myself senseless on a cabinet door that had been left open. If the door had been slightly sharper underneath, it would have split my head down the middle like a cantaloupe. I probably should have gone to ER, but I shook it off and insisted I was fine. I wasn't. Severe headaches stayed with me for days, but I didn't tell anyone.

Rev. Joey N. Welsh: A good name counts, Part I

A good name counts in Kentucky county names, Part I

Having a good name is no small matter. Proverbs 22:1 tells us, "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." Ecclesiastes 7 declares that a good name is better than a fine perfume; I think that the reverse meaning of this passage is true as well, because having a bad name can really stink things up for a person.

Tom Chaney: Think globally, act locally

Of Writers and Their Books. No. 010. Written 24 April 2005. Essay. Think globally, act locally (1853)
The next earlier Tom Chaney column, a book review of CLOTEL, the first black novel

By Tom Chaney
Email: Tom Chaney bookstore@scrtc.com

Think globally, act locally

The slogan, "Think Globally, Act Locally" is an environmental call to action that has been a useful way to urge care for our habitat for decades. No good bemoaning the death of the Amazonian rain forests if one strips a hillside of trees for a house site in Hart County.

But I want to talk about this in relation to books and the selling of books. Just this week we have shipped books from Horse Cave worldwide - from England to Japan and Australia and in the USA from California to New York.

Chuck Hinman. IJMA No. 040: Uncle Floren

It's Just Me Again No. 040. Uncle Floren's Follies
The next earlier Chuck Hinman story: The Saturday Night BathIs Chuck Hinman your favorite Sunday with CM columnist, as many tell us? If so, we hope you'll drop him a line by email. Reader comments to CM are appreciated, as are emails directly to Mr. Hinman at: charles.hinman@sbcglobal.net

by Chuck Hinman

It may be hard for you garage sale addicts to believe but there haven't always been garage sales. I have never seen any reference in the Bible that Adam and Eve's children had an estate sale. If they did have such a sale and someone got some dried-up fig leaves pressed in an ancient-looking stack of manuscripts, hang on to them; they are priceless beyond your imagination. Believe me!
