Legislative Update from Bam Carney
at 8:33amCT, Monday, April 5, 2010

By State Representative Bam Carney

House majority unwilling to compromise.
Legislature adjourns for Veto Days without budget proposal

Even before the Speaker's gavel fell convening the 2010 Regular Session, my colleagues and I were fully aware of the budgetary challenge that lay before us. Treading these economically turbulent waters, I understood that we needed to construct a budget that not only protects our state's vital services and places our Commonwealth back on the road to financial stability, but also one that would not place a heavier tax burden on our citizens and businesses.

The budget was not the only matter addressed this past week though. Even though we were only in session two days, we recognized the time as our last opportunity to concur on legislation amended by the Senate prior to the veto period and took final action on a number of measures.

Early history of the Circle R Drive-In

By "Jim"

A Bit of Background

As best as can be determined from court documents, the line of ownership of the Circle R property (real estate, that is) up to the J.D. Harper Golden Era was thus:Annie Wilkinson, et alia, sold a lot to J.C. Marshall & wife, 1941 (this was one of the two lots upon which the Circle R was later built.)Clifton Rogers & wife sold an adjoining lot to the Marshalls in 1941.The Marshalls sold the two lots as one parcel to C.T. Jones & wife Louetta in 1944.

First Adair Co. Bird Walk was fun, with more than birds to see

The first Adair County Bird Walk was enjoyed by those who went to Corbin's Bend on a chilly March 27, 2010. The next bird walk is Tuesday morning, April 6, 2010, at 7pmCT, on a quiet, comfortable county lane, on Joe Tom Grant RD, near Glens Fork. For details, see Article on 2nd Birdwalk by Wendy Burt

Rebecca and I enjoyed the first ever Adair County Bird Walk on March 27, 2010.

We were delighted to see the golden eagle soar by!

We took some photos while we were at Corbin's Bend.

The morning was topped off by a delicious breakfast at Betty's, which partly explains the presence of such a youngster at such a very early hour on a Saturday!
