Birds of KY: Sandhill Crane weekends at Barren River State Park

Two weekends planned: One in January, one in February 2010

LUCAS, KY - Each year thousands of Sandhill Cranes make Barren River Lake a stop on their journey back home. The park is holding two weekends for guests to see and get close to these beautiful cranes as they migrate through the area.

The weekends, January 29-30, 2010, and February 19-20, 2010, will consist of educational sessions conducted by Wayne Tamminga, a wildlife biologist with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, on Friday evenings at 7pmCT.

COLUMBIA, KY - Several dozen Lindsey Wilson College students, faculty and staff gathered Monday in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center to watch the LWC men's soccer team compete in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship in Fresno, CA. The event was shown at naia.org.

LWC, the tournament's No. 1 seed, beat Bellevue (NE) University 2-0 to advance to the national tournament's quarterfinal round. The Blue Raiders' next match is 9pmCT Wednesday against the winner of the Martin Methodist (TN) University-Southern Polytechnic State (GA) University second-round match. Martin Methodist and Southern Polytechnic State play 9pmCT Tuesday.

There are now five candidates for the Republican nomination for Magistrate in Adair County District 7, in the seat now held by Republican Terry Hadley, with the filing Monday of Steve Foster, in a field which also includes Billy Franklin, Lonnie McAllister, and Billy Rowe.

A primary race has been set up in District 3, with Richie Melson challenging incumbent Republican Magistrate Sammy Baker.

LWC Women's Soccer Routs Southern Nazarene 4-0

Goals by Caitlin Burke, Elisha Fry, Lorna Heaton, and Mia Persson put Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider Women's Soccer into NAIA National Championship Playoff Quarterfinals, Wednesday afternoon at Jack Allen Recreation Complex, Decatur, AL.

DECATUR, AL - The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half, combined with a lockdown defensive effort to shut out Southern Nazarene (OK) University 4-0 in the second round of the NAIA National Championship at the Jack Allen Recreation Complex.

Junior midfielder Caitlin Burke wasted little time netting the game-winning goal in the fourth minute. Senior forward Yolanda Hamilton's pass inside the box was collected, but dropped by the keeper, allowing Burke to rebound the ball for the easy goal.

Blue Raiders win in NAIA Second Round National Championships in Fresno, CA.

FRESNO, Calif. - Junior forward Carnell Learmond's goal in the 23rd minute proved to be the game winner for the No. 1-seed Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team in its 2-0 win against Bellevue (NE) University in the second round of the NAIA National Championship on Monday at Ramirez Field.

After a string of four missed opportunities to start the game, Learmond put the Blue Raiders up 1-0 with a strong finish inside the right side of the box.
