Adair County Fiscal Court honored by PRIDE

Adair County Fiscal Court a finalist for Rogers-Bickford Award, which was won by Russell County Middle School Teacher Jean Clement.

The Adair County Fiscal Court was honored on Monday, November 10, 2008, at the annual PRIDE Envi Awards ceremony at the Forum in Hazard.

The Adair County Fiscal Court was a finalist for the region's Rogers-Bickford Environmental Leadership Award. Named after the PRIDE co-founders, the award honors those who have demonstrated environmental stewardship for others to follow.

We lost our puppy last night, November 10, 2008. He is 10 weeks old, a boxer mix. He is light brown with a black face and white goatee; he has white feet. He was lost in the West Frazier Avenue part of town--near Sav-a-lot and the Masonic Lodge area. My kids are heartbroken and would love to have him back. Over 300 attend 10th annual Wal-Mart Veterans breakfast, program

Updated with photos now being added

The Columbia Wal-mart Supercenter held its 10th Annual Veteran's Day Breakfast and Program on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at the new store building on Burkesville Road, with the largest crowd ever, well over 300, in attendance.

All veterans and their families were invited to attend. The breakfast began at 8:00amCT and the program will follow at 9:00amCT.

Pre-playoffs dinner Thursday for ACHS Football team

Dinner is November 13. Playoff game is at Morganfield, KY, on Nov. 14, 2008

All ACHS football players and their families to a pre-game dinner on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at 6:0pmCT at the Adair County High School Cafeteria. The meal is potluck, with these requests:
  • Freshmen and sophomores: Casserole or vegetables. Bring serving utensils
  • Juniors: Pasta dishes. Bring serving utensils
  • Seniors: 24 drinks and French bread/rolls
  • Boosters: Chicken, plates, forks, knives, spoons, and napkins
Dessert is provided by a Special Supporter.

Anyone wishing to bring snacks to prepare a goody bag for each player when they get on the bus for the playoff game on Friday, November 14, 2008, is welcome to do so.
The Adair County High School Football Team travels to Union County High School, 510 South Mart Street, Morganfield, KY, on Friday, November 14, 2008, to begin playoff action. Kickoff is set for 7:30pmCT. Morganfield is 201 mile, three hour, twelve minute drive west Columbia, KY, according to Google maps

Fire destroys house in Gradyville community

At 9:10pmCT, Monday night, November 10, 2008, the Adair County Fire Department responded to a call for a house fire at 1375 Brock Burris Road, in the Gradyville community.

Upon firefighter's arrival the house was engulfed in flames and was a total loss. The property owner was Heather Ambers. There were 17 firemen on the scene for around 1.5 hours and the cause is under investigation.

Sgt. York relatives to be at dedication of 2nd Jamestown doughboy monument
"Dedication for the new doughboy is scheuled for November 11th. Sgt Alvin York, a Medal of Honor recipient during World War I, came to Jamestown and dedicated the doughboy in 1937. Sgt. York's son, Andrew York, will be in Jamestown for the dedication cerey in November. Andrew York's brother, George, a retired minister, and his sister, Betsy, have also been invited to attend. They will be joined by the Russell County Laker Band, Russell County Jr. Navy ROTC, and Jamestown Christian Church as part of the long-awaited ceremony.
