Tony Hillerman 1925-2008

Tony Hillerman died Sunday at age 83. Hillerman was a popular writer of contemporary stories of real Native Americans. His two Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee have entered the world of detective fiction in a way few detectives of color have done.

This has been a perfect fall weekend--sun shinning, cool breezes, bright colors dotting the landscape, leaves falling and falling and falling. It truly boggles the mind just how many leaves can fall from one tree.

Now is a good time to gather up the family for an old fashion leaf raking party. If that idea doesn't go over with your family you might try a variety of blowers, vacuums and shredders on the market today. No matter what method you use you can still end up with a huge volume of leaf debris that must be disposed of.<

Grass/woods fire burns 2 acres on Christine Road

The Adair Co. Fire Dept responded to 707 Christine Road to property owned by Terry Patton, to a grass/woods fire on Saturday afternoon, November 1, 2008 at 2:59pmCT.The fire was contained to approximately 2 acres. There were eight firemen on the scene along with the KY Division of Forestry for around 45 minutes.

Secretary of State list of DOs and DON'Ts for election day

With just a few days before the November 4, 2008 election, Secretary of State Trey Grayson released, today "Dos and Don'ts" list for Kentucky voters. The list is designed to help voters understand Kentucky's election process and to inform them of helpful hints before they go to the polls on election day.

"Our office is taking unprecedented steps to educate voters about elections in Kentucky," stated Secretary Grayson. "We have so many new and infrequent voters that are expected to participate this year; we want to provide as much information as possible to ensure a smooth election for voters. A positive experience will hopefully cause them to vote in future elections."
