Agape House announces Best Buddies group

Five year old knocks car out of gear; sibling is injured

Younger child airlifted to Kosair Childrens Hospital in Louisville, KY

Accident occurs in Green County Tuesday evening

On September 16, 2008, at approximately 6:02pmCT, the Kentucky State Police responded to a residence at Bishop Lane in Green County. A 5-year-old female and her 3-year-old sister were playing outside. The f5-year-old climbed into her mother's vehicle, a 1989 Oldsmobile, knocking the vehicle out of gear.

The vehicle rolled into the 3-year-old. The 3-year-old was air lifted from the scene and taken to Kosair's Children's Hospital in Louisville where she is in critical but stable condition with a closed head injury. The names of the children are not being released per the family's request. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Obituary: Darrell Furkin, 59, passes away in Louisville, KY

COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM OBITUARIES

Mr. Furkin was a native of Adair County, a member of a respected South Adair County Family. He was a retired Bremner Biscuit Co. employee and a member of Calvary Holiness Church. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and will be accorded military rites by Columbia VFW Post 6097.

Darrell Furkin, 59, Shepherdsville, KY, formerly of the Sparksville Community of Adair County, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2008, at 11:15am at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY, after several weeks illness.
The funeral service is Friday, September 19, 2008, at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Doug Webb and Bro. Melvin Webb the officiating clergy.

Kelleyville church revival, homecoming in September 2008

Kelleyville Community Church will be having a revival starting Sunday, September 21, 2008 at 6:30pmCT nightly. The evangelist is Bro. Robert Knight. This is an open air revival and will be held outside if weather permits. Bring a lawn chair and join the congregation and Pastor Stanley Watson for a great week of praise and worship.

The church will be having their Homecoming on Sunday, September 28, 2008. The service begins at 10:00amCT with the group "Driven" of Russell Springs, singing. There will be a pot-luck meal following the service. We would like to invite everyone for a wonderful day of worship.

ANN: Adair County Enhanced 911 test calls underway

Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton announced this morning that the county is finally making 700 test calls for the Adair County Enhanced 911 Center.

The calls had originally been scheduled for late August, but due to glitches in software, which were not corrected until Friday, September 12, 2008, both the test calls and the hoped for September 11, 2008, open house for the center were delayed.

KY Landmark reminds Chris Bennett of wonderful history teacher

The years only add appreciation for what dedicated teacher did for every student at the John Adair Middle School. (Now Adair County Middle School. The name went with the building, not the grade level. John Adair is now an intermediate school. -CM)

Twenty Years Ago, when I was in the 7th grade. Mr. Curry saw to it that every child attending John Adair Middle School made the pilgrimage to this historic Kentucky landmark.

High on a ridge overlooking the Kentucky River is the final resting place of the legendary adventurer and frontiersman, Daniel Boone. As a young child I don't think I appreciated the school field trip as much as I do now.

Family weekend starts Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at LWC

Lindsey Wilson College will open its A.P. White Campus to friends and family members on this weekend as the college celebrates Family Weekend.

This year's Family Weekend includes an athletic event, campus tours, presentations by international students, a classical guitar recital, corn toss tournament and a session about how to get involved with sailing.

Deadline for LWC cheer camp registration extended

LWC Cheerleaders will be doing the 2nd annual cheer camp September 22-25, 2008, at Tumble Towne again this year. What a difference a few days can make in the weather cooler temperatures, lower humidity and that fall feeling in the air. Many families's, clubs and churches plan get to gathers this time of year. In fact I have recently driven past a couple of reunions underway and they all looked like they were having a great time. The thing that worries me is the after effect--namely bags and bags of trash headed for the landfill.

ACHS Girls shoot lowest round of year vs. Pulaski County
On Monday, September 15, Adair shot their lowest round of the year (170) but it wasn't good enough to defeat Pulaski Co. (167). Adair was led by Lauren Goodin and Natalie Sneed with 41's, Ashley Goodin 42, Dea Brandon 46, Abby Royse 48, Emilee Royse 51, Natalie Curry 53, and Rachel Phipps 63. Pulaski Co. was led by Chelsea Branscum's one under par 35 and Ashley Morris had a 43.

ACHS Marching Band Roadblock Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008

The Adair County Marching Band will be having roadblocks to help raise money for the 2009 Macy's trip n front of Wal-Mart on Jamestown Street and IGA Express on Campbellsville Street on Saturday, September 20, 2008, from 7:00am to 3pmCT. All proceeds go to toward sending the band to New York City for the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

SCC Prof. Rivas featured in Animal Planet's Raw Nature Series

Somerset Community College Assistant Professor of Biology Jesus Rivas is currently featured in the Animal Planet series entitled Raw Nature. Rivas appears in two episodes named "Dragons and Rhinos and Bears, Oh, My" and "White Lion Fever."

The "Dragons and Rhinos and Bears, Oh, My" episode of Raw Nature is scheduled to run on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. The Animal Planet Channel describes the episode as a "Komodo Dragons try and eat the crew. Rescuing dancing bears off the streets of Agra, India. Placing microchips in the horns of rare white rhinos. Catching and releasing giant anacondas in the Amazon." Rivas appears in the portion relating to giant anacondas.

The South Central Kentucky Go Tell Crusade ministry, an inter-denominational local group, is organizing events that will bring Rick Gage back to Campbellsville-Taylor County for a September 14-17, 2008 crusade. Evening services during the Crusade will begin on Sunday, September 14 2008, at the Taylor County High School football stadium and continue nightly through Wednesday, September 17, 2008.Pastors and lay members of many area churches will be involved in the nightly services as well as Rick Gage and Go Tell Ministries staff.
