Pastor Roach sends addresss for cards to Delphus Frankum

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

By now most of Adair County knows that Delphus Frankum had a massive heart attack on Thursday evening. Delphus became exhausted and complained of shortness of breath which led to his heart attack. Delphus was flown to Audubon hospital in Louisville, where he remains.

Initially, Delphus was completely unresponsive and was on large amounts of pain medicine.Today, he is on no medicine, his heart is beating for him on its own; however, he is on a ventilator which is doing about 60% of his breathing. The exact extent of trauma caused by the heart attack is not known at this time.

Occasionally he is responsive, but only very slightly. He will move his feet, open his mouth, but he remains unconscious.

If anyone would like an update you can call me at (270) 384-6467 or if you would like to send the family a card you can do so at:

Graduate Jean S. Hayes (1938), her daughter, Diane Sawyer, and Virginia Huddleston Van Zant (1939) take nostalgic tour of Lindsey Wilson Campus. Alumni revist room in Phillips Hall they shared with Metcalfe Countians Neva Sawyer and Hazel Nunn Blevins
With photographs

By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs

COLUMBIA, KY. As Lindsey Wilson College prepares to embark on its largest expansion in college history, two alumnae from the 1930s were on campus Monday morning to reminisce about campus life in the late 1930s.

Jean S. Hayes, a 1938 graduate, and Virginia Huddleston Van Zant, a 1939 graduate, toured the campus and recalled the days from their time as Lindsey Wilson students. They were accompanied by Hayes' daughter Diane Sawyer. The two were roommates during the 1937-38 school year. They shared a room on the first floor in Phillips Hall with classmates Neva Sawyer (Hayes' sister-in-law) and Hazel Nunn Blevins, both of Metcalfe County.

Letter: Reader why gnat missed in photo

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

Damn fine photograph. But did you not miss the gnat crawling behind the fifth blue berry from the right?

s/Tom
Full name and address of bookstore owner in Horse Cave on file

Of course we saw it. And all the others in the picture! That was to have been our contest. The gnats weren't on the blueberries when we got them at the Farmers Market. Got on in the truck. Flew in from Hart County, we think. Your keen eye reminds me of the photograph the late Dr. Steve Aaron ran in the Edmonton Herald-News when I was editor there and went off to summer war with the Campbellsville National Guard. He found a file photograph of sun streaming through a hickernut tree and filled a news hole with it and ran this caption to this effect: "Can you count the squirrels in the piss-ellem tree?" There were many entries. The highest count submitted was five, with locations in the branches precisely identified. I had a hard time re-establishing editorship after the bump Steve Aaron gave to readership. He's still remembered by many in the Free State of Metcalfe County as the paper's greatest editor ever, next to Albert Van Zant, in that fine journal's history, even though he was only there part of three days. -Ed Waggener

Comment: Reader says detergent will make tick turn loose

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I have never tried this, but I have read several places, if a tick bites, and stuck, do not pull off with fingers, as it is likely to pull it away, leaving his head imbedded in the skin. Take a cotton ball, soak it in Dish detergent, Place it on the tick for a short time, and the tick will stick to the cotton ball, and will be removed safely.
