B.J. Fudge issues hypothesis on monkey presence here WERE THEY LEMURS? Rational explanation for "2 monkeys, or monkey-like animals, spotted near Conover Ln." wherein the writer notes convergences of fact of global warming with childhood memories of stories of giant circus snake seen on Bird Road in early 1900s, and of "Leaping Leaners," later, as a possibility for the presence of the two long tailed creatures seen running into the woods off East Road Eighty by Jason and 'Staff By Billy Joe Fudge I am really heartened with the restraint of the readers of Columbia Magazine. Tom Chaney: #6 Reprint: The Dark Side of (KY) History Of writers and their books. #6 A revised for this reprint of a March 27, 2005 review of Jefferson's Nephews: A Frontier Tragedy. by Jay Feldman To read Tom Chaney #159, a review of The Children of the South by Margaret Vance AndersonClick here By Tom Chaney bookstore@scrtc.com The Dark Side of History We used to be taught in Kentucky history classes that the state's name was Native American in origin and meant something close to "Dark and Bloody Ground." I am not so concerned about the linguistic accuracy of that statement as I am interested in some of the events on the dark and bloody side of our state's history and how those events have been used to help us to define or deny our past -- hence our present selves.
