Recycle Did you know that the City of Columbia Department of Sanitation paid $14,775.61 to the Transfer Station to dump garbage at the landfill in the month March 2008, alone? an annualized cost to the City of Columbia, KY, based on March 2008, of $173,970.90 per year? Did you know that most of the material dumped could have been recycled at the Adair County Recycling Center or turned into compost for use in vegetable and flower gardens? Did you know that recyclers believe the amount of waste going to the transfer station could be reduced by over 90% just by recycling, reducing the landfill bill to $1,477.56 per month and saving the City of Columbia, KY $156,573.81 every year, just on landfill costs alone, every year? It's a great program, more and more businesses and institutions are finding By Ed Waggener The movement to join the Adair County Recycling Center's business pickup service is continuing to grow, according to Lisa Lee, who sent the following list of 34 businesses, institutions, offices, other large recyclers who have made arrangements with the ACRC to have regular pickups of recyclable materials. "There is a long way to go," Lisa Lee said, "but we are couldn't be more pleased with the progress we've made so far." Industrial Authority to get $40,300 a year for GRCP lease Mitchell Burton submits winning bid. Eleven had asked for bid packets. Five bid for Green River Commerce Park Land. Lease may bring in $201,500 in five years; CACID has option to discontinue lease if land needed for economic development projects By Ed Waggener The Columbia-Adair County Industrial Authority will receive $40,300 a year for 281 acres of land in the Green River Commerce Park. The lease was granted to Mitchell Burton, B&H Dairy, at a bid opening at at the Columbia-Adair County Industrial Authority (CACIDA) office at 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY. The lease could bring in as much as $201,500 over the possible five-year term. The lease stipulates that CACIDA has the authority of to end the lease on any portion of the land which may be needed for economic development over the life of the lease, Judge Ann Melton said.
