Watching the Waste: What the City of Columbia could save

Learning the 3Rs: Reduce consumption. Re-use. Recycle
Did you know that the City of Columbia Department of Sanitation paid $14,775.61 to the Transfer Station to dump garbage at the landfill in the month March 2008, alone? an annualized cost to the City of Columbia, KY, based on March 2008, of $173,970.90 per year?

Did you know that most of the material dumped could have been recycled at the Adair County Recycling Center or turned into compost for use in vegetable and flower gardens?

Did you know that recyclers believe the amount of waste going to the transfer station could be reduced by over 90% just by recycling, reducing the landfill bill to $1,477.56 per month and saving the City of Columbia, KY $156,573.81 every year, just on landfill costs alone, every year?

Does it matter?

To learn more about the Adair County Recycling Center, call (270) 384-4703; ask for Lisa Lee or A.L. Sinclair. Individuals can also learn more about home recyling through the Adair County Garden Club by contacting Barbara Armitage at (270) 250-2979 or Kelli Bonifer at the Adair County Extension Service at (270) 384-2317.

Feedback: Finds CU Chorale Verona clip on YouTube

To the editor, Columbiamagazine.com

Just noticed the article regarding the Campbellsville University Chorale, and decided to chance finding a posting of their singing on Youtube- which I did.

Apparently two posts were made by the Verona Choral Groups Association. Two performances are posted. Very nice work- and I'm sure that was a wonderful experience, as well.
