Dr. Tom Jeffries, CU retired professor, dies at 66

Dr. Thomas V. Tom Jeffries, retired professor of chemistry who taught chemistry at Campbellsville University 37 years, died at 4:58 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 at Norton Hospital in Louisville of leukemia. He was 66.

Jeffries began teaching at CU in August 1968 and retired in June 2006. Dr. Tom Jeffries loved Campbellsville University, and he loved teaching, said Dr. W.R. Davenport, president of Campbellsville University from 1969 to 1988.

PROGRESS WHICH SHOULD BRING SMILES to the faces of the Project Development Board Boys. This morning, there was a two and one-half story Adair Florist house here. At this stage, early in the afteronon on October 31, it was a nine-foot high pile of rubble with Billy Starnes of Pyles Excavating, Inc. flattening it further. The third building on the new Adair Justice Center, the Adair Muffler Shop, was next in line, according to Daniel Keen, also with Pyles Excavating. He thought there was a chance it would be leveled today, as well, but later, the decision was made to raze that structure on Wednesday morning. The brick building on the left is the Columbia-Adair County Fire Department building.The blue barn is on the western edge of the Columbia City Cemetery.

Casey driver in child-injury accident arrested, jailed for DUI

Abel Lopez, 24, Liberty, KY, was arrested at 1:11pm, today, following a one-vehicle accident 10 miles west of Liberty, KY, on KY 1547.

Lopez was arested for DUI, aggravating circumstances, no operators license, failure to maintain insurance, failure to register or transfer motor vehicle, possession of open alcoholic container and lodged in the Casey County Jail.

Dwight A. Moody, Dean of the Chapel at Georgetown College, has collected ten dozen delightful "Stories on American Religion and Everyday Life" to quote the subtitle of his collection published this year by Mercer University Press.

More than a little wary of Baptist preachers who write essays, I am on guard. Haunted by dozens of verses of "Just As I Am" as the finale of hundreds of sermons, I expect to be confronted with an altar call at every corner. If The Other Side of Oddville were that sort of book, I would not have finished it in two days -- or even finished it at all.
