Historic event here: formation of 1st Friends of the Library Columbia has never had a Friends of the Library, the volunteers who do so much to raise funds, buy items not in the budget, and proselytize the unaware to educate them on the role libraries play in community success. A meeting Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at the Adair County Library aims to see an FoL organized here. Local leaders support the organization of a Friends of the Library here By Ed Waggener When Adair County County Health Department Community Health Nursing Supervisor Mary Keltner moved to Columbia from Chicago, she fell in love with the community to which her late husband, James Howard Keltner, brought her. She especially liked the friendly people she saw at the Adair County Library. She was surprised, however, to find that she could not help the institution through the organization most frequently operating as an auxiliary support group: A Friends of the Library.
