Adair Heat win one, lose two in State Tournament Heat will begin invitational play at Greensburg this weekend By Gerald Reliford After crushing their district opponents the Adair County Heat got their flame put out by a poor performance against a strong South London team. Adair County committed over ten fielding errors leading to 14 of South Londons 20 runs. Poor performance by a pitching staff that was stellar in district play added to the problems as Adair was never in the game. Tom Chaney: July 19, 2006. Of Writers and Their Books. Trillin Book review by Tom Chaney: Calvin Trillin's A Heckuva Job Why Calvin Trillin is in the Kentucky section at The Bookstore Editor's note: Type in Tom Chaney in our ColumbiaMagazine.com search box to find other Tom Chaney book reviews. Or, better yet, get in your car, go by one of a dozen or so scenic routes to Horse Cave and visit The Bookstore, a nationally known Kentucky institution, and talk with Tom Chaney about books, politics, philosophy of living, or just about any other topic on earth. Chaney is the foremost Kentucky authority on Calvin Trillin. He is also one of Kentucky's great storytellers. Buy some books from him, and remember to take a different scenic route back to Adair County. Information on Tom Chaney is also available from Sue Stivers at the Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce. The Executive Director is the foremost Tom Chaney authority in Columbia, if the title does not belong to author Morris Grubbs or librarian Phil Herald up at Lindsey Wilson College, who sometimes have Chaney over for entertaining lectures. -Ed Waggener By Tom Chaney bookstore@scrtc.com One of the differences between a used book store and a library is that the book monger gets to select the category that he thinks best fits a book without regard to the intent of either author or publisher. Should you come looking for a book in our shop, you might find a book by Dan Quayle in the section on 'bird hunting.' Certain political autobiographies are classified in Horror. And certain eschatological novels are surely in the realm of fantasy. Calvin Trillin is firmly and irrevocably in the Kentucky section although he is a native of Kansas City, a graduate of Yale, and a denizen of New York City. But when it comes to the Bookstore, he's a Kentuckian.
