Kentucky Color: Tiny Nest

2022-08-18 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
By Billy Joe Fudge

The Great Wooded South never fails to titillate the learning gene. This tiny nest is hanging about three feet above the ground a few hundred feet from Little Pitman Creek just south of Old Summersville Road.

Yes, I just like you flew right straight to the conclusion that it might be a Hummingbird nest. However, after much research I believe the builder was likely a Vireo.

With the exception of the ink pen, I can see five or six different building materials used to construct this complex structure. Do you see them?
