Flag the Red Baby - 1923 Farm Delivery Service

2022-06-01 - Knifley, KY - Photo courtesy JIM.

JIM writes, "This ad ran in the Adair County News from May 1922 to May 1923 and records one of the first -- and possibly the first -- farm delivery service in Adair County. Mr. L.R. Chelf was a long time merchant and dealer representative in the Knifley section of Adair County."

The ad reads:
Here it is. The reddest, fastest baby you ever saw on four wheels. And it's on the job every day and every hour of the day.

Watch for it. It carries Cream Separators, binder twine and seasonable goods--it is a farm service supply station on rubber tires.

If you are too busy to come to town, use your telephone. We will deliver the goods on the first trip out your way.

What do you need? If it is in the McCormick-Deering Line we have it

Here's a challenge for L.R. Chelf's grandchildren - Bob Chelf, Ralph Waggener, Fay McKinley and Annette Richards - who were in that store as children and have memories from there that I hope they'll share! I never got to see the store as I came to Adair County after the lake had moved the original downtown but it sounded like an enchanting place for kids. If anyone wants to share special memories but has no time to write, just call, 270.403.0017, and I'll take notes! -LW
