Tobacco spears were made on Jamestown Hill

2022-03-01 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Pen Waggener.
Ralph Waggener, at left, shows Chris Cravens a poster he printed and shared promoting his father's Tobacco Spear company. Ralph and his siblings (including Chris' grandmother Jean) worked in the business as children in the upstairs of their Jamestown Street home. He printed copies to share with family members gathering Monday evening, February 28, 2022, to remember Jean Waggener Cravens.

The promotional copy surrounded by pictures of the product and E.P. Waggener, owner, reads: "Tobacco spears - new clamper type white point. Over 250,000 sold. Most popular spear on the market. Made of one piece tough springy type steel with spring action. Clamps any type stick firmly. Easily transferred from stick to stick. Holds record for speed in harvesting." For more information contact Ralph at Trifecta Print on Wain Street in Columbia.
