Birds of Kentucky: White-Chested Rednecker?

2020-04-29 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Kelli Claypool.
Kelli writes: "Calling all backyard bird watching enthusiasts, I need help with naming this bird who is new to the feeder. He's beautiful with red on his neck and breast, black with white dots on his wings and has somewhat of a rounded beak. He's patient and waits his turn to get to the feeder.

I asked my son what kind of bird it was and in his infinite wisdom he said "it's a rednecker". Ha! He cracks me up!!

So I'm now looking to you, my fellow Adair County bird lovers, to give me accurate information on this bird that brings so much joy to the feeder watching. Thank you!!"

Update: Several folks have written in to identify the bird as a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak, including:
  • Judy Reliford
  • Marie Freeman
  • Charles Marshburn
  • Brenda Clark
  • Susan Fitch
