Scenic Cumberland County, KY - purple fields

2020-03-16 - Cumberland County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener,
The countryside is turning from shades of brown of winter to gentle colors of spring. This delightful little plant has turned fields purple, or lavender, in Cumberland County. According to Billy Joe Fudge, "if the stem of this plant has leaves all the way to the ground it is Purple Dead-Nettle. If the stem is bare of leaves up to 2 or 3 inches from the ground up, it is Henbit." I didn't get up close to examine it because it was private property and there was no one around to ask for permission. As a matter of fact, the fields are for sale behind a beautiful home. More about that in the next photo.
