DAY TRIP: across Patty Ridge Road to find a mountain

2019-03-16 - Russell County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
If you head east from Columbia to Russell Springs, then turn left as if you were going to Liberty, in a short distance you'll see a turn to the right with the sign "Patty Ridge Road". Not very far off that turn onto Patty Ridge Road, there in the distance, as clear as it could be on this cloudy winter day, was the distinct, tall blue peak rising above the green Cedars and Pines, leafless Oaks and Maples that made up the tree line - "Daddy's Mountain". I communed with the cows in the field to see if it was all right to take a picture above their heads - they indicated it was OK so long as I kept moving and got no closer to their fence. The story of the mountain and why it was referred to in our house as "Daddy's Mountain" came back to me.
