Changing face of Jamestown Road - 17 Jul 2018 - I

2018-07-18 - Intersection of Jamestown Road, Industrial Drive and Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com .
Sometimes things are quite like first impressions. Moving past the site above, it looks like someone is building a mountain - heeding the great apocryphal story of the ca 1948 report of the delegation from Russell County, searching for a way to turn The County into another Gatlinburg, and duely reported that they had the answer and it would only cost $48 Million Dollars, their recommendation for the fix: "We just have to build a mountain." The mountain was never built, but in spite of that, tourism has become the engine for Russell County growth. NO. A mountain is not underway. This is the site of a new Dollar General Store, and, one might guess, the road to the sky is the new Jamestown Road access point. It's located at the crest of a the rise, with apparently excellent line of sight in both directions. And, safety advocates will hope, the current speed limit of 35mph along Jamestown Street will be dramatically lowered when the new DG becomes a reality. Paired Photo.
