Birds of KY: Canadians take the beach - II

2018-07-05 - Along an Adair County Byway - Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.

Going ashore, the Canadians form a serpentine line, with the leader, a Momma or the Alpha goose firmly in the lead and the subordinates following the path outlined for them. Again, just conjecture, awaiting an authoritative Canada Gooseologists input. When I was a kid Canada Geese were strictly migratory, wary, and seemed to know that regardless of game laws, they could well get shot at. Now that they are year round residents, the sight of the geese isn't quite the thrill it was in the 1960's, but like most living creatures, they are better than their worst deeds. - EW.
