Trees of KY: Yes, a Wild Cherry can be Child of an Ash

2018-07-01 - Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Maybe it's a miracle, if not quite parthenogenesis. It is a rather charming situation to see how the remains of an ash is now the foster parent, at least, of a young Wild Cherry tree, seen in this photo taken Saturday, June 30, 2018. Knowing what is predictable with this new life will have to be the work of others. For history buffs and Mike Watson groupies, the Adair County Historian reported in CM that a large ash tree fell during the last week of June 2015 in the old section of Columbia Cemetery as result of high winds, Historian Watson reported in Tally on damage from tree falling in cemetery, and a photo a few days later in ColumbiaMagazine.com showed a photo of the resultant ash stump, the one above nurturing the foster child Wild Cherry. If no Canadian Tour Buses come view the scene, at least may there will be a country music song, a poem, a ballad by Sybille Tuuha, maybe even a copyright sermon. The late Pete Walker, a favorite Sunday School Teacher at the Columbia Baptist Church, would have used it to teach teen age boys a life lesson. - EW
