Defense Dog protects Russell County territory

2018-03-21 - Russell County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Mom - Mema - Geniece Leftwich Marcum, rides with us, though it's been a year since her passing. She was animal lover No. 1 in our lives. Hardly ever met a dog she didn't like, and she would have loved this one. Her first response would have been that he was in great need. That we should go back to Russell Springs and buy it one of the hamburgers she likes. Then she would have wondered if its owners had lost it, if we should call 9-1-1 - or pick it up. But we knew, looking into those stern eyes that the dog was just protecting its neighborhood, and doing a darn good job. We weren't about to contradict the dog in any way, and eased around past it's position, envious of its family. - EW/LW
