Kayla Frye presents roads for flex fund for 2018-2019

Kayla Frye, Engineer-in-Training from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's District 8, Somerset, KY office, present the 2018-19 recommended improvements for the county's Rural Secondary Roads. "Flex Funds." The recommendations were unanimously approved on a motion by Magistrate Terry Hadley (7), with a second by Harold Burton (1), with the full court voting unanimously to accept the recommendation (but this does not mean the projects will actually be built) proposed roads for asphalt resurfacing, a total of 7.750 miles, The four projects are: 1) KY 3491/Green Hills Road, a total of 1.506 miles. 2) KY 76/Neatsville-Knifley Road (Elkhorn Road), 2.303 miles, just west of Tucker Woods Road. 3) KY 706/Fairplay Road, from Eddie Compton Road to Jack Smith Road, 2.178 miles, and 4) KY 768/Glensfork Road, 1.763 miles from Union Church Road to KY 55 in Glensfork. Deputy CJE Andrea Waggener noted that the county road funds are from these sources: 1) Flex Funds this year, $260,316, from Motor Fuels Tax 2) Governor's Discretionary Funds, no set amount, but is distributed by the Governor, 3) Road and Municipal Aid, this year $350,000. The county also receives funding for one bridge per year, on an 80/20 matching basis. A bridge in the Fairplay/Gadberry area is being studied for the next bridge. Usually about $100,000 is allocated per county. - EW
