December 1944 found the Allied forces locked in mortal combat with an enemy seeking world dominion; many, many items at home - everything from shoes to sugar - strictly rationed; and people putting every cent possible toward the current War Bond drive. Still, the Paull Drug Company on the square offered a nice selection of gift items for the modest budget in that long ago December 6th edition of the News. - JIM
