Patterns of history on our Village Square

A history lesson can be taught by looking at each of these buildings on the public square in Columbia -- our "village square" as one new resident calls it. In the center, the historic courthouse clock tower can be seen from this and all directions, it is our mark of home. The tallest buildings, on either side of Jamestown Street, result from years of greatest retail commerce on the square. The tall one on the right is in trouble now, the serious disrepair is bringing complaints to the city with questions about possibly starting the process for condemnation. Efforts are being made to find and communicate with its owners. -- Linda Waggener
