Elementary students use cereal to learn math

Campbellsville Elementary School fourth-graders Amaya Anguiano, left, and De'Asia Fisher count using pieces of cereal. Students are using cereal to practice their math skills. In Garnetta Murrell's class, students are learning how to respond to short answer math prompts. During a recent lesson, students were asked to answer a question about a boy having 112 candy pieces and sharing them equally with three friends. Students were asked to determine how many pieces of candy each person received and then draw a picture of their answer. Murrell's students worked in groups and used cereal to represent the candy and help them find their answer. - Calen McKinney (CIS). Paired photo
