Jackman High School Commencement program - 25 May 1944 2017-10-20 - Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. This commencement program is now on display at the Adair County Public Library for National Archives Month. It is from the years when schools were segregated and the nation was at war. Read line by line, and drawing from one's imagination in the Theatre of the Mind, it is hauntingly beautiful in the eloquence and plan of the presentation, in its promise of eventual victory over the evils of the system before Brown v Board of Education. Just imagine - my imaginary, though unlikely, performances of God of Our Father's by the incomparable pianist of the day, Mr. Robert Wheet, or imagine anachronistic vocalization of Sharon Payne). Just imagine the procession of eleven graduates and the five member faculty and speakers coming down the aisle, and the memory becomes a Ken Burns level drama. There's 30 minutes or more introspection for this one station in the display, as so many distinguished Adair Countians flash by while reading. The exhibit is in the genealogy room of the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY.
