Chief Cross says illegal drugs - not jobs - top 2018 election issue

Columbia Police Chief Jason Cross issued several challenges to participants in the Columbia Police Department's Fifth Drug Forum held a Bearwallow United Methodist Church last night, Thursday, July 27, 2017, including a call to the Adair Fiscal Court - with Drug Forum supporter Harold Burton in the front row, to step up funding for the Adair County Sheriff's Department to provide a Detective slot within the ACSO and to provide a drug/bomb detection dog for the ACSO. He commended the Columbia City Council for it's support, and requested more funding for a second Adair County School District SRO. He advocated faith based efforts, but said that the effort should welcome all in the campaign to eradicate the scourge of illegal drugs. He also defined the primary issue, as he sees it, for the 2018 city and county elections. "The No. 1 Question to ask every candidate is: What will you do about drugs? It's not Jobs. I don't want to hear about Jobs until I hear what the candidates are going to do to help stop illegal drugs."
