Adventures start here - scenic meanders in any direction

2017-07-15 - Barnetts Creek Road at Scott Hill Road, Pellyton, District 1, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com(c).
If you have a chance this weekend, take a few hours to learn more about the Adair and Casey County Scenic Adventure Land. This is as good a place to start as we could suggest, just yards from the Adair County Road Departments vital new bridge over Barnett's Creek Sapp Creek (See first comment, below), opened this week, the second in Adair County Judge Mike Stephens' 2.5 year tenure. Take a picnic, park off the road (while you can; crazy how a state wanting tourists just shuts down access to pull off areas rather than maintaining them), and walk a while. Talk to residents nearby. The roadsides are lined with beauty, despite government efforts in the other direction. There may be no stream in Adair County with water so clear, filtered by sand and creek gravel. There are new eye-popping pathways in every direction, if you can't stand to linger - up Gennie Hill Road to find a new route to Pellyton or venture into a thriving Creston and Rheber and KY 206. Or up Scott Hill Road for a shortcut through Janice and Henry Giles Country. Along the way, you'll meet as friendly a set of citizens as you'll find anywhere in the world. - EW. Comments:
  1. BJ Hagy - Barnett's Creek Road. Bridge is over Sapp Creek, a feeder stream. The feeder stream flows into Barnett's Creek. See article correcting the cutline above.
