Photos show point of letter - mistake in signage, we think

2017-07-14 - Highway 61, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed & Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
Willenia, When we read your letter and thoughtful comments, we thought you made a good point about a mistake in signage. We made these photos that show it. Heading south from the Public Square on Burkesville Street, just before the Post Office drive, the speed is posted at 35mph (top left). Drive three to four blocks, past First Baptist Church, and the speed is posted at 55mph (top right), a 20 mile increase. Not even three blocks beyond that, there's a double red light at the Bypass where, for safety sake it would be best to slow way down, even if the light is green, due to the number of accidents there since it was built (bottom photo). Your point goes right along with what our Sidewalk meeting speaker said Thursday, July 13, 2017 -- drivers usually do what they are directed and encouraged to do. He was speaking to the incongruence of the invitation to speed up between Guardian Street and the Pubic Square, heading in the opposite direction on Burkesville Street -- where the road suddenly widens out to two lanes. We really appreciate your letter and believe when citizens speak out it helps improve both roads and sidewalks, making movement more efficient and much more safe. Thank you for taking time to document and share this obvious error. - LW. That's our opinion; tell us yours, even if you think we and Willenia are wrong
