Cumberland County teachers honored at CU for Excellence in Teaching

Cumberland County School awards were presented at CU's Excellence in Teaching ceremony to Becky Ballard, Cumberland County Elementary School; Rodney Smith, Cumberland County Middle School; and Nathan Britt, Cumberland County High School. From left in the photo are: Dr. Donna Hedgepath, vice president for academic affairs; Rodney Smith; Michelle Bell, principal, Cumberland County Middle School; and Dr. Beverly Ennis, dean of the Campbellsville University School of Education. Ballard has taught 4th and 5th grade at Cumberland County Elementary School since 1993. She graduated from Cumberland County High School in 1988. Ballard attended Western Kentucky University, where she obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 1992 and 1996, respectively, and also, where she received her Rank I. She is married to Michael Ballard, and they have two children, Hannah and Micah. Her parents are Betty and the late Edward Lee Bryant, Burkesville. Smith teaches sixth and seventh grade language arts and geography at Cumberland County Middle School, where he has worked since 2014. He graduated in 1992 from Clinton County High School. In 2013, Smith obtained his BA from Western Kentucky University. His parents are Eloise Smith from Albany, Ky., and the late Jim Smith. He is married to Rebecca Smith, and they have three children: Elizabeth and Emily Smith and the late Walker Smith. Britt teaches ninth and 11th grade social studies at Cumberland County High School, where he has taught since 2008. He graduated in 2002 from Clinton County High School. In 2008, Britt received a BA from Western Kentucky University. In 2017, he obtained his MA from the University of the Cumberlands. Britt is married to Jessica Britt; they have one child, Thorin Britt. His parents are Louise and Jim Britt from Albany, Ky.
