Metcalfe County teachers honored at CU Excellence in Teaching

Metcalfe County School awards were presented at CU's Excellence in Teaching ceremony to Haley Martin, Jennifer Shearer and Anita Estes. From left are: Dr. Benny Lile, superintendent; Haley Martin, Metcalfe County Elementary School; Jennifer Shearer, Metcalfe County Middle School; and Anita Estes, Metcalfe County High School. Martin is a second-grade teacher at Metcalfe County Elementary School, where she has been working since 2013. She graduated in 2006 from Metcalfe County High School. In 2010, she obtained a BA in Education from Western Kentucky University. In 2015, she received a MA in Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands. Her parents are Tamara and Gary Blaydes. She is married to Blake Martin and has one child, Asher Martin. Shearer is a sixth-eighth grade college and career lab teacher at Metcalfe County Middle School, where she has been working since 1998. Shearer graduated in 1989 from Cumberland County High School. She attended Western Kentucky University, where she obtained her BA in 1994, her master of arts degree in 2001 and her Sixth-Year Program Depress in 2006. She is married to James Shearer Jr. They have two children, Alexander and Zachary Shearer. She is the daughter of Eva Breedlove of Burkesville and Ronnie Breedlove of Muncie, Ind. Estes teaches exceptional education at Metcalfe County High School, where she has worked since 1985, and, also, where she graduated in 1980. Estes attended Western Kentucky University, where she obtained an art degree in 1985, and degrees, exceptional education in 2013 and director of exceptional education in 2014.
