Poison Hemlock - Vickybane? - is taking over the roadways

2017-05-22 - KY 61/Greensburg Road N of Lampton Lane, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, Columbia, KY.
If one weren't aware that Poison Hemlock is an unwelcome invader, one might think it's the state wildflower of Kentucky. According to Wikipedia, wikipedia.org/wiki/Conium_maculatum, derives its scientific name from the Greek Konas, meaning to whirl, because one of the symptoms of ingesting the plant is vertigo. The article in Wikipedia says that the plant can be dangerous to humans to humans and livestock. And therein lies its imminent peril. It has attracted the attention of Miss Victoria Pike - who has already appealed to the Adair County Fiscal Court to eradicate it in Adair County, to local representatives to engage the help of Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles, to fellow farmers and all who will listen to join her crusade to eliminate the noxious invader - native to Europe and North Africa, she said. Anybody have any ideas? Share them here, if you'd like. - EW
