Middle School students at CMS study waves

Campbellsville Middle School fourth-graders Anna Floyd, at left, and Ta'Zaria Owens calculate the amplitude and wavelength of their waves. fourth-graders recently learned about waves. Students in Samantha Coomer's class recently learned that waves are repetitive motions, and there are many types of waves. They also learned about amplitude and wavelength, and how to calculate them. Amplitude describes how much energy is being transported by the wave, and wavelength is the length of one complete wave cycle. To help them visualize waves, students performed an experiment. Students drew a wave using paper and markers. They then identified the crests and troughs and the wave's equilibrium, and then calculated the amplitude and wavelength. - Calen McKinney
