Watch out for ice patches this morning

2016-12-18 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
Stepping outside this morning, Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, was a shock to Smokey Blue Cat and me after yesterday's warm weather. This photo shows the thin layer of ice on the few fall leaves left in the yard after high winds swept it clean and took most of them to our various neighbors. We walked around the house and found many small limbs on the ground. Just before midnight last night the predicted winter front arrived with a power flicker, then a full power outage that lasted for three hours. It was a lesson in how dark darkness can really be in the absence of all the night lights we live with these days. But for lightening, there wasn't a bit of light here. This 24-hour event may well go down in history as one of the biggest demonstrations of why we say, "if you don't like the weather in Kentucky, sick around a few minutes and it will change."
