Sam Marcum at Sulphur Well mill in 1947

2016-12-17 - Metcalfe, Green, Hart Counties, KY - Photo from Sam Marcum family collection.
Betty Church of Crail Hope shared a collection of photos she had inherited from the Sam Marcum family who partnered with his brother Ellie at the Sulphur Well establishment known as Marcum's Mill. Betty kept asking about someone to pass it on to. She talked with her friend Gary Lane who grew up in the region and he mentioned that I might like to have them since I was related through my father Earl Reid Marcum. I'm so grateful to both Gary and Betty and to her daughter Nancy who delivered them in passing. It's wonderful to see these precious photos and put faces to names I heard all my growing up years. Someone, possibly Sam's wife Cora, carefully wrote on the back of many of the photos so they can be remembered by name. Without these photos I would never have seen Marcum's Mill since it burned before my time in Sulphur Well, and would never have seen the likenesses of so many Marcum kin. If there are Marcums out there reading this who would like to share these photos, please click "comments" below this paragraph and send me a message.
