Terry Waddle, the driver of the big black Volvo Adair County High School Band van, had briefly acknowledged fans and photographers along the way as he passed Betty's Flowers and Things and the entrance to the Columbia City Cemetery. With him in the co-pilot's seat is band parent Chuck Glandorf. This van, the big chartered coaches, equipment trucks and the long convoy which accompanies the band to and from its innumerable triumphs is an awe-inspiring procession. The sight of the van brought a choke to many in the crowd, knowing what it represents and the inspiring story of this very young Adair County Marching Band. - EW
