CAUD calls in specialist to confront taste & odor problems

2016-09-09 - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
A Decade old Annual Taste & Odor Problem for Adair Countians is finally getting special attention, as the Columbia/Adair County Utilities responded to demands from consumers to correct the issues. Already, many water users are noticing the improvement. Above, with a pitcher of icy cold CAUD water as a centerpiece, there were smiles a-plenty. From left, clockwise Board member David Jones, CAUD Chair Wid Harris, GM Lenny Stone, standing, Board Member Doug Sapp, and Board Attorney Marshall Loy listen as Aaron Mudd, a water chemist, discussed procedure and technology changes already underway at the Adair County Water Plant which affect taste and odor. Members Junior Brown and Mike Newton, along with representatives of the media, were also present, but out of frame. So far, the District has spent approximately $10,000 to make procedural changes utilizing existing equipment. Board Member Doug Sapp asked the chemist if, knowing the seasonal predictability of algal blooms, changes could be made which would head off the problems and virtually eliminate taste and odor problems. The answer he got was a welcome one for CAUD Users: Mr. Mudd said that could be done. - Ed Waggener. Photo taken at the CAUD regular meeting, Thu 8 Sep 2016.
