Why do trucks still go around the Adair Courthouse?

2016-07-30 - public square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
On this rainy afternoon, waiting to get back into traffic after my haircut at Nancy McKinney's Glamourette Salon, I pondered why any driver would want to go around Columbia's round square now that there's the option of sailing across the Veterans Memorial Bypass? I decided there was no better place to pose that question than on columbiamagazine.com where professional drivers who know the roads, safety and best routes are respected. So, drivers of big trucks, what is the benefit of driving downtown when you don't have a delivery there? Do you just love visiting the square as I do? Love seeing the old courthouse and the tradition it represents? Is it safer than the bypass? Is it quicker than the bypass to certain routes? Help me understand. -- LW
