2016-06-03 - Photo Submitted Sabine Eastham, director of the LWC International Student Program.
"WIZARD OF MATH," International Student at Lindsey Wilson College extends stay in America
All but 1 of the 13 exchange students, above, who spent the last two semesters in Columbia, KY have returned home to pursue their studies in Japan, South Korea and Irleand. Ami Kumazawa, front row to the left, has extended her stay in America until September to gain additional experience. She will be doing her Internship at the "Wizard of Math" a US and Japan Exchange in San Diego where she will be helping to familiarize students with soroban (abacus) concepts and techniques, leading to the skill of mental calculation by developing the right-side brain ("image brain"), and make children no longer "allergic" to math. At home in Japan, she carried the title of "Japanese national abacus champion in mental calculation" five times (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2010), and the second prize in the other years 2001 to 2013.
