A special occasion: Shapiro's couldn't do it better

2016-03-20 - Epicurean Kentuckian table - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Thanks to some scrumptious left-overs in a C.A.R.E package from out of town visitors some Columbia paupers were able to dine like Kings do at 808 S Meridian Street. This sandwich was ham and swiss cheese on marbled rye with spinach instead of lettuce, a bit of roasted red pepper for color, a smidgen of mustard, thin spears of Kosher Dill and some hidden sweet Vidalia onion. It was wonderful, even when eaten as dessert following a Reuben sandwich with the the best corned beef we ever ate. No one can ever know the beverage; just pretend and let it fit one's own theological prejudice. It could be Vernor's ginger ale, but it is not. And, we'll never confirm whether it is White Welch's communion wine or Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling/Columbia Valley/Vintage 2013/100% Vinafera Rootstock/Established 1967. That will have to be left up to one's one imagination. - Ed Waggener
