Epicurean Kentuckian: Go togethers - Coffee & Fish

2016-01-02 - Liberty Road Grocery & Diner, 5097 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff iPhone photo.
Patti Edwards fries excellent fish & crinkle cut french fries - and understands it's not a proper fish dinner without coffee. She said most diners have to have coffee with the meal. "It's a tradition," she said, "Growing up, we weren't allowed to drink coffee when we were kids, except when we had fried fish - then it was ok. They knew that fried fish just doesn't taste right without coffee." Agreed. And a note - the tartar sauce is good, but not the condiment of choice for us. It's either malt vinegar, lemon juice, and a concoction of Heinz Ketchup and Tabasco or Frank's. That recipe is works with both the fish and the French fries. Fish day at Liberty Road is every Friday, sometimes there's an encore with Seafood Saturday. - EW
