Favorite from Family Scrapbook: BMW & movable mailboxes

2015-12-12 - 705 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Innocent Bystander.
The only BMW I ever owned - a BMW Izetta - which got 58 mpg on regular gas and was propelled to blinding speeds of up to 50-some mph; a car ahead of its time 57 years ago in November. But more interesting to me are the mailbox stands our dad, E.P. Waggener built which had poured concrete in a tire rim base, cedar posts, and a patron's mailbox of choice. There are maybe a few left around Adair County. The house at left is gone, as is the late Jim Beard place across the road. Jeffries Gallery is located there, today. In earlier times, there was a beautiful picket fence. I think it was taken down because unthinking little boys would use card board or sticks as clappers for noise which annoyed the whole neighborhood, except for the miscreant and his - little girls, as I recall did not practice this misbehavior - age peers, who, found the racket exciting. Don't know who wrote the notes on the side; a sib I guess. - Ed Waggener
