AC Gifted and Talented 4th Graders investigate simulated crime

2015-10-21 - ACES, 870 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Gifted & Talented Coordinator Student Ashton Flatt.
Adair County High school student Lauren McQuaide is leading an investigation with a group of Gifted and Talented 5th graders. Pictured with Lauren is 5th grader Grant Feese who is collecting powder residue evidence from a crime scene simulation. This lesson is being led by their facilitator and Gifted and Talented Coordinator, Candice Flatt. The simulation evidence will later be used to identify and distinguish between a variety of substances using forensic science techniques. The activity is a part of a month long project that uses math, science, and higher level questioning to solve a mystery. For her role in the simulation, Lauren is playing the part of the science teacher working where the simulated crime was committed.
