New Adair County Schools sign on Veterans Bypass

2015-09-07 - Indian Drive & Adair County Veterans Bypass, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener .
Knifley Masons take advantage of Labor Day's sunny weather to bring the new "Adair County Schools" entrance sign closer to completion. Above, Gerald Lucas, left, and Mark Jones, were working atop the Gibraltar-symbolic base, "A symbol in itself of the goals Adair County student have for themselves on completion of High School - to be both college ready and career ready," on entrance signs with a lot more college-influence than is at first apparent. The signs are being built with Lindsey Wilson College's assistance and a borrowed LWC look. The brick and stone masons also worked on the LWC monumental entrance signs and LWC's Plant Operations Director, Mike Newton, collaborated with Adair County School District Maintenance Director David Jones to help get the most value for the dollar. Similar signs can cost in the neighborhood of $25-40,000 each. The Adair County signs are being built for a total of around $6,000 each - and for economic development considerations - much of that is Adair County labor and local consumption of materials. Supt. Reed said that for costpoint comparison, some of the some of the metal signs on the campus have cost $8,000 and more. Both this sign and the Greensburg Street & Indian Drive one should be complete in a matter of days, if the weather holds.
