Nine duck races, and they've watched every one

2015-09-07 - Butler Branch, KY 551/Knifley Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
There may be nobody else who is not an official - not an organizer, a duck dropper, or a race steward - who can make the claim Daniel & Caroline Dixon of Bowling Green, KY, can make: They have attended everyone of the Wacky Quacky Duck races ever held - all nine of them. "We wouldn't miss it, Daniel Dixon," even though there record of never holding the ticket for the winning duck also remains intact. They do have differing opinions about the race. He favors the new, current location on Butler Branch. She wishes it were back at the Sulphur Hole on Russell Creek, remembering that first race, when the ducks for a time floated upstream, into the mouth of Sulphur. Maybe next year, on the 10th anniversary of the event, they'll win the Grand Prize. And maybe next year, the prize will be worth more than all the past one's put together. Maybe next year ducks will be sold at the event. And maybe next year, there will be concessions on the spot.- EW
