Master Plan: Adair Co. School District Campus: Bus garage a go!

2015-07-31 - Adair County School District Campus, Columbia, KY - Photo photo of Campus Master Plan, (c) Sherman Carter Barnhardt.
The Adair County School District's long term strategy to reach what Supt. Alan Reed said was his goal when he took office: Kentucky's Most Beautiful Public School Campus" is evolving quickly, and took another giant step last night with the board's vote to build a new bus garage, located in the plat above in the lower left of the campus map. Architect Gabe Jones, with Sherman-Carter-Barnhardt outlined phased changes in the campus which, if carried out, might take 20 years to complete. The bus garage now officially underway, is in yellow, along with existing buildings. Proposed projects are in blue. The plan was unveiled last night, Thursday, July 30, 2015, at the Board's Special (special because of date change) Monthly Meeting. After the bus garage, the next major construction will be a "Learning Center," located across Indian Drive from the Adair County High School. The Learning Center will offer additional vocational training, and will be a part of the Kentucky Community & Technical College Systems (KCTCS). Also in the future Mr. Jones said: A new Administration Building, Phased replace of the Adair Middle School, with a shared Fine Arts building for theatre, choir, and band; New classrooms, and finally, a second Middle School Gym; a new octagonal concession center to serve both the football stadium and the softball field; demolition and removal of the old Adair County Middle School; a new soccer field; a new band practice area; additional classrooms for ACES and ACPC; a new maintenance building near the new bus garage; a new central storage area with the old 350 building being repurposed for locker rooms and the baseball program. Along the way, he said, modifications may be made to adapt to population changes, community needs, and availability of funds. - Ed Waggener
