I - The Stream Straightening project: Not the Tennessee-Tombigbee

2015-07-12 - Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
It's evocative of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, but the biggest transport it can handle, now, is probably a child's model sailboat. But as construction work continues on the Town Creek stream project, it's easy to think about what the community will do to do after construction is complete. The north side retaining wall was in yesterday, and the forms were partially removed. The drainpipe empties groundwater from the NE side of the intersection. There's a relative spacious gravelled area. Depending on ownership, it looks like a delightful place for more landscaping and perhaps a rest area beside near the sidewalk. Perhaps a stream biologist can enlighten on the quality of the stream for aquatic life. Surely crawdads will be back. Maybe some minnows. Possibly some bullfrogs and creepers and some water dogs. One wonders too, if there will finally be a northside walk or steps to the Wolford monument, perhaps some benches, and if the walkway/steps might continue to the driveways through the cemetery, if maybe, finally, the city will take advantage of the cemetery as a peaceful urban park, as many other cities have done, including Edmonton, Burkesville, and Jamestown. - EW Photo taken Saturday, 11 Jul 2015.
