View of new intersection from Fairground Street taking shape

2015-06-26 - Fairground & Campbellsville Street Intersection from Fairground Street - Photo by Ed Waggener .
The broad new intersection at Campbellsville & Fairground Street already is taking on an improved look, and it is getting enhanced aesthetics and utility as the project nears its completion date. Earlier this week Rob Wilkerson donated right of way which will allow construction of a turning lane for traffic headed north on Campbellsville Street and Junior Stotts, announced that the District 8 Chief Engineer Bruce Neeley had made design changes which will allow for that change and a turning lane from Campbellsville Street onto Fairground. This morning, after receiving a call from John Ford of Curry's Floor Covering, Mr. Stotts made calls to city council members to expedite a gas line move which was necessary for the state to install a wing wall which will protect the Curry Flooring property from possible flooding upstream of the new culvert which will carry Town Creek through a the new culvert. The work will beautify the busiest entrance to Columbia and is already having a positive effect on property values in the area. In the 30th day the intersection has been closed, the impact has increased awareness of how very, very important it is. - EW
