Christmas in Greensburg, KY

2014-12-25 - 107 N Main Street, Greensburg, KY - Photo by Larry Smith.
I have to give my vote to my hometown, Greensburg, KY, for having the outstanding Downtown Lights this year. This is a scene in what was once the fountain in front of the old City Hall, an adaptive re-use of a service station during the administration of a wonderful Green Countian, the late Mayor George Huddleston. The building is still owned by the Ciity of Greensburg, and is officially the George Huddleston Building. It is leased to the Calhoon & Cook Insurance Agency. I think it is amazing when a ccommunity is pro-active in preservation. Instead of building a new building out on the edge of town, re-inovate an existing one. The way Greensburg did with this one, and the successor City Hall, in the old Theiss Chevrolet Building on West Court Street. And, come to think about it, the way Taylor County preserved a beautiful Campbellsville Church for its library, and later, now Mayor Young and the Campbellsville City Council made the building into a Civic Center which is the envy of Kentucky. I just hope that Mayor Hardwick and Judge Executive Mike Stephens will see how this is such a win-win for all the beauttiful downtown buildings in Collumbia.
